As i blurted out at the last meeting, I am negotiating the purchase of a GL1100i in Halifax. It is my intention to fly over, give er' a good service, and ride er' home. I am expecting the best of weather with no difficulties of the mechanical nature. I still have to decide whether i fly over in mid-May, to return by June's end. Or i fly in mid-July and return ??? when i get here. If there are any others out there interested in such an adventure, there are certainly more decent deals on bikes in Halifax as you are reading this. This be the one I am working on.

Interesting sort of a dental chair thing you have going on there in the back... is yarding condemned teeth out of hapless local yokels another skill that comes naturally to the intrepid crane operator? A way to offset the costs of touring? Is there room for a big hammer in the top-box there, to further constrain anaesthetic costs, while encouraging quick payment, and addressing delinquent accounts?
-
I do like how the Kenworth exhaust is offsetting the weight of the dental chair. You should be able to wheelie it all the way home. What is the swimdeck for?
-
The pipes would actually keep it from wheelieing over at least. Only thing that scares me is that tow bar. If it pulled anything heavy for any length of time clutch issues may ensue on your way home. Avoid the wheelies. Other than that it looks good for a garbage barge/ old man's bike. CHEERS.

Wow
Rough crowd. Maybe its the bike of his dreams.

Its the Kawmeister... he can take it. Anyone else would have been approached more delicately. Afterall, Kawmeister named his last barge the "Starship Enterprise." He has a sense of humour and is among friends here. If Russell and Hans hadn't already got the best digs in, I would have come up with something.

The British Bulldog has decided to step down from the PGVMCC Flat Track Committee as of Dec.07/2012

Had a chat with Paul yesterday and he was indicating that riding across the prairies wasn't something he was looking forward to. But looking at the pipes if he was able to do sustained wheelies some of the farmers would probably hire him to run furrows for their crops. And adding a milk crate to the passenger seat woould allow for extra weight.

thats the best you boys could do????? I am mildly disapointed

Well, I wanted to say it wasn't a swim platform but rather the mount for the tri-spar rotating crane, but Old-duc put me off...

Well boys, this is the day i leave for halifax. I am looking forward to exploring a piece of canada that is new to me. Also looking forwrd to connecting with friends who live on the east coast. Should be an awesome trip. wished you all could be there. I must confess, if it wasn't for being a member, I may have not had the confidence in myself as a rider to take on such a journey. I look forward to returning and discussing the trip with you's. (over a few beer and steak of course). cheers till then.

Have fun and safe journey! CHEERS.

Paul,
Call if you have some questions about the area.

well - as one who has just toured the area and seen more rain in the past 2 weeks think I have for a long time - I can only say I hope you brought the best of rain gear and a lightning rod as the thunder showers were accompanied by some spectacular lightning bolts.
Watch out in particular for the highways in Ontario if you are travelling back on Hwy 16. there are some potholes big enough to swim around in on most parts of their highways.
I think you all have it wrong, the seat looks like a birthing chair. You might be responsible for adding a new dimension to the phrase - "Born to ride"!
Good luck!

Just saw this post. That will be quite a trip, good thing it will be on an inter-galatic bike. I don't know why they just do not totally enclose them, add heaters, windshield wipers, etc. The exhaust will be great for cleaning streets of dirt. Enjoy your trip and may it be a safe one.
-
Have a safe trip, and keep a sharp eye out for wildlife!! Came literally within a couple of inches of a deer just north of stoner yesterday on the trip to the coast. As I looked in the rear view mirror he was just picking his hind end up off the hiway.

Greetings from the ferry to NFLD. NS was cool, spent some time with the new ride doing refits of sorts. change rear tire, remove non-weather friendly stereo, delete kenworth wanna-B exhaust extensions, disconect dental chair arms, service everything, scrub and polish, and of course drink copious amounts of barley flavoured water. had a nice little day and a half breakin trip. down to digby, visit, Yarmouth for the night, then onto lennenburg to see the marine museum. a few more tweaks, valve set.
-
ferry net service is very slow and timed.... To continue.. consumed a few more wobbly-pops. Helped my friend out here buy a motorcycle(kawasaki) and showed him how to clean carbs. then up to Bickerton for the weekend, sunday travel to cape breton via larry's river and board ferry on monday. tuesday will see us dock at Argentia and off to Saint John's.
-
right on Paul, NFLD is on my bucket list also ;D.... How's the bike ? runs ok ? i hope. HAve a sfe ride home!! 8)

Newfound land is an awsome place to visit. I wished I had stayed there longer when I was there in 2008. Just watch for those pesky moose running across the highways. The pub scene in St. Johns is great with some great groups and music. My daughter visits the pubs there frequently and tells us about the groups she sees. Have a great trip and just watch some of the roads as they are a bit dicey at times.
-
Currently docking at north Sidney. The rock is behind me now, long road, lots of water, rain, fog, etc. Did not see any wildlife except seagulls. Tomorrow... Cabot trail starts.

It was good talking to you on Wednesday.
I am following you on the map. After PEI if you aren't overly interested in going to Magnetic Hill then you can take the NB #15 and just before Moncton turn right and get on the NB #11 and head up the east coast of NB. At some point you will need to cut across to Edmundston unless you want to do the Gaspe Peninsula first. These roads are mainly two lane and can be quite busy.
The other option is to get back to the Trans Canada which is a separated four lane highway (and not very interesting) all the way to Edmunston at 110 to 120 km/h. I have not driven the portion from Woodstock NB to Edmundston but it is probably no different then the Moncton to Fredericton stretch.
In 110 km zones in NB the police do not seem to be that interested in you if you stay under 120 km/h.
Ride safely

The Cabot trail is behind me. Nice road with lots of twists, turns and hills... many spots for photo ops... spent last night in Truro at a friends house, then took the ferry to PEI. Spending the night at Cavendish then riding the island tomorrow.
-
I left the island a few days ago. rode straight through N.B. with an overnight rain avoidance move. the Gaspe' penisula was pretty awesome. it is a bit longish. but worth it. next i went to Old Quebec City. was a very good couple of days.. went sailing on a 33'yauht. way cool. attended a murder mistery dinner on a boat. we sailed the st. lawrence and everyone partook in the game of catch a murderer. it was cool. i have left Quebec and am in Maine. i will be headed for NY state . then north to Ottawa.
-
Awesome-Dawson!
Sounds like you're having a great time seeing the sights and probably getting well-acquainted with the new bike. Enjoy the open road, and I'll show you my new wheels when you get back!
Cheers,
Peg

Ride on. Glad to hear from you.

liking to hear the progress reports. I'm riding pretty much vicariously this summer.

Yesterday was a bit of a marathon. Breakfast in Skowhegan Maine, lunch in Gorham New Hampshire, supper in South Hero Vermont, and slept in A usable forks New York..... long friggin day. Off to check out 'Lake Placid' this morning, will be on the lookout for giant Crocs. 8) Then head for Ottawa. me thinks they could use my help up there.
-
Was in Ottawa yesterday, they need more help than I can provide so I headed down the road to Perth for the night. Looks like cloud & lightning in my near future. On my way to Dearborn Mich. Bike is running like a Honda.
-
Maybe if we had one of us each year ride to Ottawa and politely vent they would do a better job for us!!!
Thanks for your effort.
Lots of tough bikers in northern Michigan, maybe you should remove that pink character from the back of your bike before you head into the good ole USA.

Where are you Paul?
-
After spending four days in dearborn, Mich. Visiting `the Henry Ford` and attending a 6-800 entry car show and swap meet at ford world head-office. I left this morning...in a torrential downpour...that lasted to Chicago..so I kept going to milwaukee. I travelled from Michigan into Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Grabbed a room at days inn. Tomorrow I will head for Duluth. Hoping for some dryer weather.

Welcome back to Canada.
I always interested to hear about border crossings. Bike plate and registration from the right side of the country, rider registered from the left side of the country and multiple border crossings. Entering and exiting the US whenever. Staying in the US for how long, I don't know. What were you doing would be the first good question (to be asked by our border militia, as I believe they carry weaponry now)?
As said many times, keep the rubber side down.

Border crossings were a breeze...they asked and I told them the facts without asking any questions or giving any indepth details...the weather has been dryer on the Canadian side:-) should be home in a day or two.
