Hey there folks,
Has anyone got spare carbs/ parts for my twins?
Specifically looking for any of the diaphrams, there are 2 per carb
(retailing nearly $100 each, yikes!).
Or, lacking that, any tips on 're-rubberizing' the existing diaphrams?
There's GOTTA be a way...
Will pay $ and arrange pick-up.
PM me here,
Peg

Had a girl bring in an old ? she had repaired her slide diaphragms with a condom and crazy glue. To my amazement it worked. Google might be your best friend on this one. A common problem so there are probably lots of ideas out there. Cheers.

Yeah, I sort of agree with that - I have seen rubber patches and permatex used on cracked vacuum diaphragms and it does seem to work for a time. I used to think that it woulld affect the response time/amount of the slide, but I am told that apparently the vacuum creates a non-variable volume demand in the chamber controlling the slide and so material uniformity is less critical than it might be. The thing that kills diaphragms dead is being removed from the carb and left out in the open air, like on the workbench next to the window... if they haven't suffered ridiculous abuse you might be able to save them. By the by, sometimes slides and diaphragms are an assembled pair, and then things really get expensive, especially on a four. The Hondas with the machined vacuum chamber - which I guess this doesn't have - avoid this entire problem and have a system that lasts virtually forever, at the cost of slightly more real estate.
Umm, there are 2 per carb? You must mean the pullover-enrichener diaphragm on the side of the carb body? Those last pretty well unless they have had carb cleaner squirted in them, or been dipped in cleaner... they don't much care for that. Or do you mean maybe an accelerator pump?

I have some if you are still looking.

Hi Dave,
Sorry for the delay, I've been out of the loop for a bit.
I think I'm good for the diaphragms now, got some aftermarket parts that seem to do the job.
Now it's just a matter of tearing her down and seeing what else went sideways to cause her to run so poorly.
Thanks for your offer, though, I appreciate it.
Cheers,
Peg

Peggy, I think you should borrow a c.d.i. from Dave and and see if that cures it. Get any jumps last summer? CHEERS.
-
You're probably right... I'll hook up with him and borrow one next time I'm in PG.
Till then, we're going to try tearing it down and checking a few other snags.
Didn't get many jumps in last summer, but sure had a good time at O'Keefe!
Dennis's loaner was a blast on the flat track, and I think that the smaller bike we're working on now will be light enough for me to skid around those corners next summer...
Hope all's well with you and yours,
Peg
ps: I did come flying up out of some stumpholes out at QBall's place last weekend on the Ratbike, though, do those qualify as jumps if you land them? ;D
