Title: Where are my collector plates!
Post by: danielg on April 11, 2012, 06:27:06 PM
I came home today and my bike cover was on the ground and my collector plates gone!

ICBC says I have to buy regular insurance or wait and wait and wait for weeks till new plates are sent up here. BOGUS!

Is riding with no plates illegal if you have insurance?

I filed the police report as 'lost' because i cant prove they were stolen. Last time i recall seeing plates was several days ago.

Any one have any experience with this?

well, that friggin' sucks.  You need to have plates in BC, no if's and but's.  One would think that they should be able to send up a set of plates fairly quickly, but then it is ICBC.  If you buy 3 months on regular plates, when the collector plates show up, you can transfer the insuarance to them and get a refund for any unused time.

While it's true the law says  you must have a plate  chances of getting pulled over are slim as long as your not goofing off. When I buy permits I stick them in my pocket so they don't get wrecked and have never once been pulled over doing this. If you do get stopped I'm sure a simple explanation would suffice--as long as it is not constable byron. Biggest asshole that ever pulled me over--except steinhauser. Luck!

I agree.

I have police file number for report and I have insurance papers...so it makes sense I can ride!

 ;)

A gap in the system that I am currently investigating policy from ICBC on. Further to all of this I am on holidays and wanna ride...

So I think pushing for a consideration of fixing ICBC policy will help. I have some well honed advocacy skills that I am inclined to use here!
Academics gotta be good for something at least!
